Over 775 million individuals aged 15 and above, 17% of the global adult population, grapple with illiteracy. Our mission is to fortify communities' ability to promote fundamental education and literacy, diminish gender disparities in education, and elevate adult literacy. We champion education for all children and literacy for both children and adults.
September marks Rotary's dedication to Basic Education and Literacy, one of our seven Areas of Focus. Literacy and proficiency in reading and writing are critical in every aspect of life, from acquiring knowledge to effective communication and fostering agreements. Strengthening these fundamental skills in Basic Education and Literacy plays a pivotal role in alleviating poverty, enhancing health, stimulating community and economic growth, and nurturing peace. These advancements hold the potential to diminish maternal mortality rates, boost child survival rates, and alleviate poverty, while also paving the way for success in the realms of business and professions.
