Youth Exchange - Cost

Each club involved with the Youth Exchange program has a different involvement with their students, and their costs may vary. Some costs are required, others are optional. As the club's monetary involvement varies, so do those of the parents and students.

Rotary Club's Costs - Inbound Program

Most clubs budget an inbound Youth Exchange student at approximately $2,500.

Required Expenses

Commitment Fee is $1,150
Student allowance ( 11 months @ $75) is $825
School lunches (amount depends on school) are usually $3 per day for 180 days for a total of $540.

Graduation gifts
Going away gifts for their inbound student

Rotary Club's Costs - Outbound Program

Most clubs budget an outbound Youth Exchange student at between $0 to $1,250.

Required Expenses

Application Fee = $1,150

Rotary Clubs can choose to address the application fee in one of four ways:
1. Club pays entire fee for student
2. Club pays a portion of fee and student's parents pay balance
3. Parents pay entire fee and Club reimburses parents after student completes exchange
4. Parents pay entire fee

Parent/Student Costs - Outbound Program

All the following items will be discussed briefly during the outbound interviews in November, and covered in detail at the outbound orientation in February and April.

Required Expenses

Visa
Prepaid Open-Return Airfare (required, $1,200 - $2,800, depending on country)
Host country health insurance ($0 - $750, depending on country)
Host country language school ($0 - $1,500, depending on country)
Emergency Fund ($300 - $500)
Passports for student and at least one parent
