Rotary 6270 clubs which do not currently have Rotary International projects are invited to join in the District projects as a way to gather the experience and interest in developing projects of their own. Some clubs have supported these projects for years, as part of their international activities, others have gone on to develop their own projects. For further information contact Mike Slawny at

Guatemala Medical Relief Project

District 6270 Rotarians have provided medical, dental, and vision care to thousands of men, women, and children in a remote and underserved region of rural, southern Guatemala. Since the 2005, inception of the mission by the Rotary clubs of Mequon and Thiensville, Wisconsin, services have expanded to include providing scholarships for 30 secondary students. Members of the Hartford, Wisconsin, Rotary club have formed a safe water group which is now providing chlorinated and fluoridated drinking water for 240 families, and members of the Mequon-Thiensville Sunrise Rotary Club have completely rewired the school building that serves as the mission’s clinic. Goat Project

The Mirabalais Goat Husbandry Project trains farmers in proper goat care and breeding. Local farmers attend one week of classes. On the last day of class, the farmers are given a pregnant goat and shown how to examine and treat it. Farmers give the first female goat offspring (doeling) back to the project. The Vet Agent-Teacher follows up with advice in health care and breeding of the doe. Goats that the farmers receive were bred to an imported buck, ensuring that the offspring of the goat will be healthier and heartier.
