Louisiana Flood Relief Initiative - Action Update

The people of Louisiana are in trouble. Approximately 160,000 homes, businesses and other buildings across 20 Louisiana parishes have been damaged by flooding. The process of repair and rebuild will be long and arduous, with many families in the rural eastern affected areas unable to cope with the financial strain of rebuilding their lives. As you know, a Flood Relief Task Force has been established in District 6450 (Greater Chicagoland) and we are now working with the Rotary District Governors in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Rotarians in these affected districts are conducting a needs assessment. The Task Force is organizing a small group of fellow Rotarians to facilitate the process of communicating the needs, coordinating the inflow of donations, setting logistics for working with suppliers to maximize the effectiveness of our support, and function as the interface with the affected districts.
 
We are getting initial visibility into the areas' needs - building materials, clothing and appliances are the focus of the most important items. Our Task Force will be reaching out to you to exercise our Rotary network looking for relationships with key suppliers in these industries, as well as to identify point people in your district to work with on this effort. The Task Force will work to efficiently acquire what is needed and see that it is transported to the specific Rotary Clubs in Louisiana, who will then make equitable distribution. We must help those who have been ruined by this disaster.

The Task Force will be including further instructions in a coming communication so that we can appropriately track contributions as they are made.
